b'Monastery of the Holy Spirit Celebrates 75 Years of FoundationWhat matters most about the monastery is precisely that it is radically different from the worldInaworldofnoise, confusionand conflict it is necessary that there be places of silence, inner discipline, and peace.Thomas MertonFounded in 1944as part of the Savannah Diocese, the Monastery of the Holy Spirit is home to 30 Trappist monks. This contemplative monas-tery has ministered to the Church of Georgia for 75 years and provided a protected sanctuary of silence, solitude, prayer, and peace. At this milestone in our history, we honor the three essential elements that comprise a monastery as we celebrate the community, the place, our friends and benefactors, with Christ being its cornerstone.Presently the monastery is moving into a season of new life and new possibili-tiesa continuing Season of Renewal, a time when we renew our commitment and mission in our unique service of prayer. At the same time, we honor our founders as we work towards renewal in the physical dimension of our aging facilities. All of this is to secure our continued monastic presence in Georgia and to better serve and minister to all. We aim to enhance our Abbey Church to support the liturgical life of the monastic community; to create a space that is more condu-cive to todays church praying together in community; to improve our visitors worship experience.Monasteryof theHoly Spirit2625 Highway 212 SWConyers, GA 30094-4044(770) 483-8705www.trappist.net18'
