b'NEWS FROM AROUND THE STATE, continuedKofC Council 14181 Flea Market Project Appreciation Dinner for Co. 12862 CCWThis Community project is another example of our Councils virtuous circle of giving. We are so blessed to live, work and worship in a community and Parish that is so giving and loving. For many years, the Good Samaritan Catholic Church has held an annual Flea Market event on the 2nd weekend in September. It is a local tradition and serves multiple purposes. One is that it is a special opportunity for residents to buy many needed items at super low prices. In fact, many local families wait for our Flea Market to buy back to school clothes for their children. We sell bags of clothes of a few dollars and also sell shoes, coats, crafts, sporting goods, Christmas items, housewares, furniture, electron-ics, books etc. It is a major local event in Ellijay each Fall! The Flea Market has also served as a major Church fundraiserCCW Officers are installed L-RMonique Haskins, Jamie Brown, Judy in the past and was used to help pay down our Church mortgage.Williams, Suzette Binek, Karen Magee, Kathy Hoffman and Pastor Fr. Terry However, when the mortgage was paid off last year, the fate ofCronethe Flea market was up in the air and uncertain. Our Knight Coun-cil leadership met with our Pastor, Parish Council members and leaders of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and made a proposal. The Knights agreed to take the lead with the flea market - han-dling all of the finances through our Councils Financial Secretary. We created separate accounts for the Flea Market for accounting purposes. We agreed to keep the treasured annual event alive and partnered with SVD and our Youth Ministry. We agreed to share the workload and split net profits equally. While led by the Knights for the first time in 2019, the Flea Market is a huge collab-orative effort involving many, many people in our parish. The Flea Market is also an annual tradition that brings our entireMarilyn Michaud, Jamie Brown and Katie Hoffman join Fr. Terry for lunchchurch community together. The women enjoy coming together to plan specific departments that they run and the men do as well. The fellowship and camaraderie are a vital part of the Flea Market event which is why the Knights stepped up to help keep it alive for the benefit of the community and our parishioners. Our youth group, who received 1/3 of the net proceeds to help pay for their annual mission trips, also stepped up in a big way to help with the enormous set up project that takes place on Labor Day weekend. They also helped alot at the closing and cleanup event. The massive event requires months of planning and organizing. Having had a blueprint from many prior years experience made things easier but still it is a lot of work.
